About This Manual

This user's manual is for SecondCopy, a tape backup application for the Linux operating system. An electronic version in html format is included with this distribution.

Several conventions are used in the presentation of instructions in this manual. All commands you are to enter at the keyboard appear in bold print and end with the symbol <Enter> to indicate pressing the Enter key:

$ secondcopy /dev/st0 name <Enter>

All responses from programs appear like this:

$ secondcopy /dev/st0 name
secondcopy version 0.12 07 February 1999
Copyright (C) 1992-1999 Brown Computer Company. All rights reserved.
volume name OfficeBackup, sequence # 1, os Linux 2.0.30, version 0.12, links no, compression none,
   date Thu May 13 12:40:12 1999
$

Commands which require superuser status begin with the shell '#' prompt:

# echo "*" | secondcopy /dev/tp0 restore <Enter>

Commands which do not require superuser status begin with the shell '$' prompt:

$ secondcopy /dev/tp0 name <Enter>
